Any news on the version 2?, by the way?

MSE v2-beta has been available for some time now, i´ve been using it since it´s release.
it´s working well together with Emsisoft AntiMalware (EAM), i haven´t noticed any real problems.

i suspect v2 will be released soon, now that MSE celebrates it´s first birthday....

What is amzing too me is that under my History Tab I have never had one item there. It makes me wonder sometimes if it's ever doing anything. How can I never have something trying to attack me? However, on the flip side I have never had a virus or anything happen to my computer since installing it after it 1st came out. I guess I shouldn't be concerned as long as it's doing something.

Thanks MS!

i regularly scan my computer with MSE, EAM, MBAM, Avast & Avira.
none of them has ever detected anything, so either is all of them not doing their job, or perhaps my computer is clean...;)

Why are we celebrating the fact that MS can not develop a secure OS?
That it has to create this massive security patch called MSE?

How can MS develop a totally secure OS for use around the world with an almost infinite number of combination of hardware and software and uses from the home user to the corporate world to government? Just getting an OS to work is a Herculean task. There is no OS out there, even custom ones' that is 100% secure.

Don't get me wrong MSE is a giant step forward, and I know MS are not responsible for viruses etc - but it is the vulnerablility of their OS that encourages the market.
I beg to differ. It is the widespread use of Windows and greed that encourages the market, not vulnerability. 15 years ago, most malware was in the form of destructive pranks. Today, most malware is about controlling your system for nefarious purposes and stealing identity and financial access - greed.

If I were going to steal access to bank accounts, credit cards, etc through a computer program or hacking, I would not waste my time on Apple or other OS's. I would put my efforts into Windows because that is what the overwhelming majority of folks around the world use. It is not because Windows is less secure; it is because of the payoff if I am successful.
Well said Carl...

I have a few Computers at home (3 - PC's and 4 - Laptops). I run Eset's NOD32 (Paid version) on my main PC and main Laptop but on all the others I have switched from Avast to MSE and am quite happy with the switch. I also run SAS and MBAM as on-demand scanners for "extra" protection.

Happy B-Day MSE!!!

I am still waiting for v2 before switching from avast. I still like the way avast checks the incoming e-mail in my Thunderbird and has prevented several stuff from getting in. I have left Defender on so...

I note some people are using both MSE and avast. Does that not create any problems / slowdowns? having 2 resident scanners?

It's very fashionable to blame Microsoft for the changing weather but think about this... I bet half the users in this forum turn UAC off and the rest of us just click the "yeah whatever" button when it appears.

I bet 99% of malware doesn't even abuse vulnerabilities in the OS rather they simply abuse your trust, not a lot MS can do if people say yeah dump that crap in my system folder 'cus I really want those new smilies for messenger. I'm quite an experienced user but I can honestly say of the 3 known virus's I've had ALL have been avoidable with a little hindsight.
