i again.

Well..it was all working fine until a few days ago - not sure what happened.
Maybe an app upgrade screwed "something"..

Config - Win 7 64 bit running Opera v12.17 64 bit as default browser
Homepage is Google.
Search produces the usual predictive search completion results but when you hit Enter of click Search, nothing happens at all.
I suspected Javascript but that's enabled and working fine for all sites and even with the aspects of Google that recognise it.
Other browsers are MSIE and FF v41 - work fine with Google
I downloaded Opera 12.17 portable and that works fine too !
I changed the homepage to Yahoo - worked fine. Changed to Bing - worked fine
Sounds like a site specific (ie Google) issue but can't find the cause.

Running Kaspersky Internet Security - full scan - nothing.

Rootkit scan - nothing
Malwarebytes (on demand scan) - nothing
Spybot (on demand scan) - nothing
Stinger - nothing
Dekart - nothing
Disable AV protection - no difference
I could reinstall Google or restore a Macrium image to correct this but would prefer not to do either.
So... any suggestions ?

Can't help you as I am trying to sort this one out for myself, same problem, but with IE. Everything works as it should, links open in new tab, right click options all work correctly, all shortcuts and favorites work, to use google I have to use search in address bar, so for now am using a different search engine. This began last night on my machine and has me scratching my head, also I reset IE and no change. If you get it sorted please post back and let us know, it's driving me ratty. :)

Interesting... MSIE...

Mine is fine, just Opera.
I have subsequently cleared all private data - no difference.
Disabled extensions and add-ons - no difference.
Changed user agent string - no diff.
Maybe a certificate issue ?
I've deleted the bookmarks in Opera Trash and backed up the bookmarks as I reckon I'll have to reinstall Opera unless someone comes up with an answer.

** UPDATE - It's fixed !

Have a look at this link:
Reset Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, IE to Factory Defaults

I copied the Operaprefs.ini file and then deleted the original to reset Opera search.
Fixed it !
Now I have to put the Opera layout back how I want it...

*** Update again !!

OK, I put the appearance back how I wanted it.
Worked fine.
I changed the user agent to Firefox spoof v41, and guess what - Google search stops working.
Methinks it's a Google end thing.

...and just to prove it, I cranked up Opera portable and changed the spoof to Firefox, and search stopped working too !

Did you try the RESET procedure as posted though...

As I like the old Opera (the other development path one doesn't do bookmarks so ta-ta to that one), and as a lot of sites like Firefox, I've decided to keep spoofing and say byeeeeeeee to Google.Long overdue to give Google, their spying and all their associated BS the middle finger..

My default search engine is now Bing for all browsers
