I have dual boot system, windows 7 and linux, and i am considering moving to linux as my main os, but there are few applications for Windows that i need, and i want to run it from virtual machine with Windows 7 in seamless mode. Basically, i want the virtual machine with Windows 7 to start fast and not load cpu too much. What services i can disable, what components to uninstall, and what optimization tweaks to do to achieve that?

For services, check out this website and read everything verbatim. Black Viper's Windows 7 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com

Not sure about components, but I know one you don't need is the games that come with Windows 7. Tweaks wise, perhaps using the classic UI instead of the full UI.

I run Windows 7 in VMware Workstation Player which is free and I never optimized anything. It starts in about 30 seconds.
