I want to add an account to Outlook 2007, but it only lets me choose IMAP. IMAP is the only choice in the dropdown. I want to add a POP3 server. How can I do that? Thanks

Wish I could help but if Outlook is only showing/permitting IMAP while it should default to POP, then there's something wrong with install. I'd reinstall Outlook or at least attempt a repair...

Sounds like something's not right. Let's double-check the route you are taking to create an account:

  1. Tools -> Account Settings...
  2. Email tab
  3. New...
  4. Choose Email Service -> Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP
  5. Next
  6. Check the box for "Manually configure server settings or additional server types"
  7. Next
  8. Choose Email Service -> Internet E-mail
  9. Next
  10. Server Information -> Account Type -> a drop-down list, including POP3, IMAP and HTTP
  11. Choose POP3, and then enter the rest of your settings
Does that all work...?

That all worked, except when I got to the page to select the server type, IMAP was the only thing available. Here's the interesting part. Just for grins, I set my wife's account up by closing Outlook, and going into Control Panel/Mail. It let me set her account up as POP3 and worked fine. I deleted my account, and set it up again, this time in Control Panel, and it worked. I am now set up on POP3

It's still a mystery, but at least it's all sorted now? Hope it's stable and working well :)

Hi there
it won't allow you to CHANGE an account from IMAP or POP.

I think you also (like me) have to be a Non Native English speaker to understand their convoluted meaning of the word ADD ACCOUNT.

The ADD account adds another name / mailbox to your Primary account so as above you can't CHANGE from IMAP to POP or the other way around.

If you CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT it's fine.

If you want to switch your PRIMARY account you have to DELETE and CREATE it again.

Strange but true.

Cheers
