PC Not Able To Recognize Monitor Says "Default Monitor"

Okay so my buddy sent me his PC so that I could fix it, that's fine, all is dandy. I made it working 100% and then sent it back to him, but when he hooked it up his monitor wasn't displaying properly. His resolution was lowered, windows aero is disabled, the text is blurry, sometimes unreadable. I uninstalled the drivers and the PC drivers went back to the standard VGA graphics adapter which made his display crystal clear and 1080p and in the display section it read the monitor as "generic non-pnp monitor" and it works fine, but the problem is every time we install the video card drivers, it messes up, and the PC reads the monitor as "default monitor" and advanced settings reads everything as unavailable under the adapter tab.

In Device Manager under Display Adapters the Nvidia GTX Geforce 970 has the infamous yellow triangle and when I go to the properties it says "Windows has stopped this device because it reported problems.(code 43)

I've tried the latest driver and have even tried on older driver, none work. I have the latest driver on my PC and it works fine though.

here's nvida's guidance on uninstalling the existing driver. I suggest removing every nvidia item you see listed...

might be best to nvidia scan your hardware and choose your new driver

if this does not work, you should go to the MSI site and re-download and install the motherboard drivers too..

I've read that the monitor driver is just color profiles. Also, it doesn't include an installer, you have to manually install the drivers.

The nvidia scan gave me the latest driver, the one I already updated and removed and updated again numerous times. I use DDU from guru3d.com to clean out every driver bits and pieces and restart so that it goes back to standard VGA adapter.

No reason to reinstall chipset drivers and LAN drivers, the VGA driver wont even let me install it, says the computer doesnt meet minimum requirements, and BIOS drivers, forget it, this guy is in another state and doesn't know what to do even if I told him to. I'm pretty much just working from remote viewing using team viewer.

if you are saying the machine was perfect, then got transported, then stopped being perfect, the odds are decent that something is amiss inside the case, such as an imperfectly seated video card, or a loose video heatsink, or a loose chipset heatsink, etc.

I am not understanding why not re-install the chipset drivers. Just use the Asus EZ update utility - if the drivers are fine EZ update will confirm it.

Ill ask to take the video card and put back in, and Ill re-install the chipset driver, I don't think the Asus Suite will work for an MSI mobo.

msi has an update utility as well

Still nothing, his friend is coming over to check for connections and damage on the inside and to take the card out and seat it properly. If nothing succeeds, I was thinking maybe a re-install of windows would do the trick.

Edit: Swapped video cards with another card(AMD), the new card worked with it's updated drivers, and the PCI slot is okay. So it seems like the card is bad or something went wrong software-wise with the nvidia drivers.
