Solved Pc turns and off every few secs, any ideas

ok tired something today with out the CPU in the mother board powers up and standby light is on... when i add the CPU the mother board turns on then off then back on and off so could my issue just be the CPU is bad????

Interesting discovery.

I'd still phone Intel and ask their advice. It's their CPU, but the BIOS is in the motherboard... which is also theirs.

Another thing you can check is to make sure all connections to the front panel of the Case are correct.
Most important are the Power switch and Reset switch connections.

You could disconnect all connections except the Power switch for testing.
If you did a breadboard test, then ignore this idea...

you made me think the case was a used one maybe the power switch is bad.. so i just order a new one online.. and should be here in a few days.. maybe that is all it is , is a bad power switch... has my fingers crossed....:eek:

it was a bad motherboard.. so i went ahead and just got another board... i am now using a MSI board...

Troubleshooting

I have the same issues with my 6 year old Quad Core 9300 computer, but it only happened over the last couple weeks - after operating without trouble for nearly 6 years. I disabled the memory, video card and hard drives without any positive results. I will disconnect the CD and other peripherals tomorrow, but suspect that the problem is either the PS, MB or CPU. Please help me identify which is the culprit.
