Percentage of Disc To Allocate To Restore Files

I have a 1TB hdd which came compartmentalized when I got my Acer w/ a C and D drive. So far, I've just used the C drive with a total size of 453GB, 347GB being free. The D drive has used 1GB of the 454GB allocated to it. I was wondering if amongst users of this forum there is a consensus or 'rule of thumb' or good way of determining what percentage of my C drive I ought to partition to the restore role?

I think many people on Seven Forums will recommend you NOT back up to your HDD. If the drive physically fails, you won't be able to access any of the partitions. And no matter how careful we are, there's also the possibility of accidentally wiping the hard drive. For these two reasons it's usually suggested that all backup data be stored on an external hard drive.

I think you have some terms mixed up.
I think you are saying is you have 1 hard drive with 2 partitions, (C & D).
If you Windows 7 is located on (C) partition then that is where your restore points are and should be. A restore point and a backup to restore you system from are two different things.

If you desires is to make a backup the best thing is a separate hard drive. (Not a separate partition on the same hard drive).
If you do your backup on the same hard drive and the hard drive fails you loose everything including your backup.

By default Windows will set it at 10%, that would be 45GB according to your screenshot, that's a bit much for my liking.

It depends on how many restore points you want to save though, 5% would be 22GB. You might want to go to 2% or 3%, a little over 10GB.

On my 160GB Partition, I have 8% set aside which is just under 13GB and I'm currently using 9GB of that.

Buy a 500GB external disk and make frequent images to that. Then you are well covered. Keep a good image history.
