DavidY made a useful post on the W8 Forums - Ms has made available a pre built VM of W8.1 with IE11 available that runs on LINUX / VBOX/VMWARE / HYPER-V so if you want to test without doing a lot of work.
There are also versions of XP / W7 too with different versions of IE available for testing as well -- note these will only last for I think 30 days but can be re-armed via the slgmr command to extend the period up to 3 times.
