Problem with resolution on my external screen

I've got a problem with the resolution on my external screen, i can't change the resolution to more than 1024 x 786. I've got a Fujitsu Thor screen but i don't think it's the screen. Can anyone help, I'm not very good at computers but i tried to update the drivers and downloaded NVIDIA display driver thingy but it didn't work.
Please help

I fixed it yesterday, it was simply that I used the VGA cable. It's working with DVI ty anyways
