I don't know if this is the right section to ask in. If it's the wrong section i'm sorry.

I used to run a game when I had windows XP but once I upgraded to windows 7 it stopped working. I found out it was caused by directx having saying directdraw acceleration was unavailable also that direct 3d acceleration was also unavailable. I had no problems running directx before. Is there any way to fix this?

I prefer not say what game it is o-o it was banned in the united states so that's my reason. But I asked on the forums for the game and they said it needs direct x to work. All i know is alot of the directx features are locked on my computer. Like direct3d says it's unavailable.

Windows 7 comes with directx 11, and maybe your game needs directx 9 to run.
If so install directx 9 if you haven't done it yet.
Both directx versions work together fine.

Makes it a bit harder to help, but I understand mate.

You could try installing the DirectX End user runtime files :Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Centre

However depending on the age of the game, it may even be be a DirectX 8 title.

If after installing the runtime files, the game then says "missing dxXX.dll" find and copy the file to games installation directory.

While 7 does have DX11, it is backwards compatible for DX9 and DX10 - however most of the time both older and newer games still require certain DX files to be added.
