programs order on my my start menu

i have added some programs to my start menu

clicked on the program and added
so when i click start , i can see quickly the programs i use most

but sometime windows 7 mess up the order
i guess it sort by how many time i have launched a program
is there a way to reset?

i never have this problem of windows mess up order - the order for me is order I install (newest install at bottom). However, I can clik and drag any program and release per order I want. It remains in new order.

They are sorted by use, come on man, how many years have you been using W7 ????

You`ve been on this forum for ages

Just pin the icons you want above the line and uncheck this box.

follow the instructions in post #6, clik and drag the pinned items in the order you want and you are good to go!

No, it won`t clean it.

I just don`t understand why you`re beating a dead horse.

The icons on the start menu are created by use, if you only allow say 4 spots to be used under the line then the first 4 programs you use will fill the list and stay there. (can`t check now I`m using W10)

If you want to remove them so other icons will show up, then just right click on the icon and choose "Remove from list"

Well you can clear MRU programs list via Right Click Start Button > Properties > Start Menu

Uncheck "recently opened programs"

Reboot.

Undo changes and you have an empty list that will be slowly repopulated according to which programs you use most often.

Or you can just keep recent program tracking turned off so that there is no list.
