"Protected System Fonts"

Windows 7 : Discovered MS -- in its typical delusion that it knows what's best for everyone -- loaded in a bunch of fonts with a designation such as @Batang Regular; since these were not requested or desired, I attempted to remove them, but MS popup informed me that these were "Protected System Fonts" -- protected from whom I have no idea -- and could not be removed.

How can they be removed?

The decision to make Batang a protected font was not the result of a delusion. While this font may not be important to you it is a commonly used font in Asia, incidentally where a large portion of the worlds population live. Which fonts are protected is the same for all locales. One may say it should be locale specific, but that would cause problems for people who change language. In that case people would be complaining why critical fonts were not protected.

It is necessary to protect people from their own mistakes. Microsoft learned that a long time ago.

Thanks for your response; if the people of Asia need Batang font, they are most welcome to it; I am not interested in it -- or any of the numerous other fonts MS claims need to be protected in my system -- and there is no logical reason why a person should be prohibited from removing fonts unnecessary, unwelcome and unneeded!

As to MS protecting "people from their own mistakes" ....wooooooo! Exactly when was MS chosen to do that? No one I know of voted on it; no one I know requested it! No: the ONLY item MS is interested in protecting is its bullying dominance in the computer world (but that's pretty much past tense now ...).

Anyway, even though your response does not engage my question, thanks for your thoughts....

It is not just Windows that protects people from their own mistakes. All operating systems do it, and have done so for a long time. When even novices can have admin rights it is necessary. People want and expect it.

I lose sleep every night worrying about all the disk space occupied by that resource-wasting Batang font file.
I'm joining the party. I'm off to delete that file right now.
