protecting identity on websites that use cookies and stuff

This is a net privacy question, not sure what forum is best, but the mods can move it if necessary.

I am interested in a particular aspect of browsing privacy. Most articles I can find on the web, and features like incognito mode, seem to be aimed at keeping your own computer free from information that identifies where you've been (identifying this to people who examine your compute). What I would like to do is keep the website I'm visiting from identifying me on repeat visits. I realize I may have to enable cookies to get on such websites, and typically they won't allow connections from Tor, so I realize they are going to know my IP address, browser version, etc. as well as setting a cookie on my system. But I would like to know if it's possible to erase the cookies, reconnect from a different IP address, and basically obscure the fact that I've been to the website before, so they at least can't track me across multiple visits.

I don;'t know the ins and outs of it but check into VPN. Virtual Private Networking. Apparently there are servers that provide you with an anonymous IP address and you can even pay the fee with an anonymous gift card.

You may want to ask the Mod to move this to Networking subforum as those guys will know more than I about it.

depends on your browser settings and browser.

ALL websites >>try<< to place cookies on your comp immediately as you visit, as well as various 3rd party cookies, that try to join in as well.

Unless your specific settings request is set to >>allways ask<<, then you have complete control of them,
otherwise they place them there and the next time you visit that site remembers your previous options.

Dont use IE or Google, but within the "Firefox family" those settings are available.
You can also delete cookies from your comp on browser closure options.

So why don't you want to be tracked? Are you doing something that you shouldn't be doing?

Nothing illegal, just trying to avoiding leaving clues that could allow a party I have a dispute with to find out my medical status. I'm slightly paranoid but don't want to risk this one.
