Putting the laptop to sleep

Hi all, just joined..

just got a new laptop, samsung Q320, it says to put the laptop to sleep press the "esc" key, it even has a picture of the moon on it, but when I press it nothing happens. any ideas?

Go to start button

In shut down, you will see a little arrow on the right, click. You will see sleep option.
