Solved Quick question regarding install media and keys

Hi,

I'm just looking for a bit of information here, but I have a friend that wants their laptop formatted and re-installed. Unfortunately they don't have any install media.

I was just wondering if just getting the installation media from digitalriver and using the key under the laptop would work, provided I install the same version as the one that was previously installed on the laptop (or, in other words, the version stated on the sticker). Just making sure since I don't want to do something on someone else's computer that wouldn't work.

Yeah, you can do that. You may have to call microsoft to activate but that's no big deal.

Thanks! I just needed confirmation of what I was thinking. I also already had some experience with the phone activation when I needed to activate my own key on my laptop with my retail install, as some here will probably remember.
