Hi all,

I have been having the occasional crashes in the past that I'd put down to my old graphics card not coping with the games I play.
Thing is , I've recently (this month) upgraded the card and PSU and the crashes seem to have got worse.

New PSU: Corsair AX760i Digital ATX '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply.
New Card:Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X OC WindForce 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

I can't seem to reproduce the crashes, and they seem to happen fairly randomly - when I'm gaming , when I'm just browsing the net , indeed when the machine is just idling and doing nothing.
So I'm hoping you guys might be able to shed some light.

I've run Furmark for 30 mins without any issues and memtest for 8 hours , again no issues

Thanks for taking the time out to have a look.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Idling with firefox open the CPU temps seem to bounce around between 1 and 10 C as shown in the screenshot. The CPU is about 3 years old (as is the rest of the PC).

Weirdly (and it's not happened before) the computer started on it's own last night about 30 mins after I'd shut it down....do you think it might be haunted ? (lol)
I think it's probably related.

I will fire up a game and take another speccy screenshot showing it all under load.

This is how things look 5 or so mins into a game.

Can't thank you enough for taking the time to look at this, I'm running out of ideas on this one - especially after the spooky 'starts up on it's own' thing last night.

Temps are really good a but the thing that has me wondering is why the machine switched itself on? Just what have you got as the power plan in Power Options in the Control Panel?

It's all pretty much default as far as I know.
Other than stopping the machine sleeping when there is no user input , I don't remember touching anything

Think I may have cracked it.
In desperation I unplugged everything and reapplied the plugs. I did a sweep with Malwarebytes and it came up positive with this

PUP.Optional.Softonic removal guide

I'd already scanned with Kaspersky and done a couple of online scans too - they all missed it. Since doing the unplug / plug back in and removing the malicious program, I'm happy to report that there's not been a crash since Weds.

I'm marking this as solved and giving you rep ICIT2LOL for being kind enough to try to help me.

So I think that it was either a bad connection or that malicious program was causing problems - or both.

Good stuff Robbo mate I run Kaspersky and yes it does miss stuff and I run these on a regular basis as well as the Malwarebytes I include it in my suggestions it and these too as a matter of course
http://www.superantispyware.com/

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(with ADW if you are running Kaspersky it will throw it up as malware just override Kaspersky)

The ADW I run if the other two do not pick up anything or much at all and if the problem persists but just note Kaspersky will object if you have any of it's settings set to high especially..

When I got the softonic PUP, I ran through the program files and apparently it makes a big change in the pc! So I ran Malwarebytes and super anti spyware. It found a whole bunch of adware programs, it was around 50 adware programs. It would sometimes even make my pc crash because I bet the pic couldn't take it. When I got rid of it, I had no known problems on my pc.
