Solved Random BSOD, several error codes

Hey guys

Recently I've been noticing some problems with my HP laptop. It started with me hearing the hardware disconnect sound every time I moved my laptop(the sound you hear when you unplug a USB flash drive). I don't have anything plugged in at all so not sure why it makes the sound. I also kept getting the BSOD. The error code I get is

You have a STOP 0xFE which is down to your USB Hub. Specifically the hub timed out waiting for a suspend-port request to complete.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help in solving this problem. I created the restore point and ran the HotFix but received an error "This Microsoft Fix it failed to process". Attached is the screenshot of the error I received. Please let me know if there are any other steps I can try.

That fix is a pretty generic fix from MS and may not be applicable to your specific machine, it was worth a shot just in case it was a quick fix. Can you elaborate on when this problem happens? Is it solely when you move the laptop or does it happen randomly when the machine is stationary? Does it happen when you insert/remove USB devices? Also, what USB devices do you usually have connected to the machine?

It usually happens when I move the laptop but it doesn't always happen. Sometimes moving it a tiny bit would make the device disconnect sound and other times it won't make the sound at all no matter how much I move it. BSOD doesn't always happen after the sounds and I can't predict whether BSOD would happen or not. When I plug/unplug USB devices it makes the sounds just like it is supposed to but no BSOD. I tested all of the USB drives on my laptop (there are 4) and they all work. As for the devices I don't have any constantly plugged in but I sometimes plug in a simple flash drive or a USB dongle for a wireless headset. All seem to work just fine.

My theory is that maybe one of the USB drives might have a lose connection to the motherboard, therefore it only sometimes causes problems. No idea how to troubleshoot that though.

That's pretty much my line of thinking, I've checked the HP website and there are no USB or Chipset drivers that are a later issue to what you have installed, and the fact that this happens intermittently when the machine is moved it would point to a hardware issue. My advice here would be to contact HP and outline the issue you're having, it may be the machine needs a repair.

Well the machine is over two years old and out of warranty, any repair will cost me a lot of money.

Do you think if I turn off all the USB drives the problem might be temporarily solved? I can always turn them back on when needed and not move the laptop much during use. I'm not sure how to turn them off but I was thinking uninstalling the USB drivers in Device Manager. Do you have any other suggestions on how to turn off the USB drives?

If you enter Device Manager you can disable your USB hub by right clicking on it, although I can't confirm whether this will solve your issue or not.

Thank you once again for trying to help. I will try disabling the USB drives, if it doesn't help ill contact HP support and see where to go from there.

No problem man. You actually helped me narrow down my problem a bit which is tremendously helpful. If I get a decent solution, ill update the thread.
