Started pc up today, logged in etc. After a few mins, pc restarts.....odd.before it even gets into log in section, it re boots again and again and again. Not every time in the same place but never loading OS. So I swap the drive as its quite new, for my smaller but almost identical, old drive.Still the same. I then connect an old win xp drive, have a look round etc. All now ok.I do a virus scan but all ok. I then go back to original setup. This time its all ok, so I do a virus scan, all ok. What was it? it did it about 20 times in a row. I started in safe mode and it didn t work?

Is it working now or no?

Lots of possibilities.... LOTS!

Just off the top of my still waking up head:

Overheating issues:
Thermal paste failure
Fans stopped working altogether somewhere
Heatsinks and/or fans now ineffective or loose, or not even attached anymore.

Hard drive electronics failing, although less likely and YOU swapped it out already, so probably not that.

Motherboard component now broken. [So many things can go wrong here]

Power supply broken (***only clean it's fan with compressed air, do not take it apart, it can hold a charge and kill you***) Use a PSU Tester, cost is roughly $20,

....or take it to a reputable repair shop for a diagnosis and end the frustration, ask on diagnosis cost, might be free.

Hi dredge3,

Like Faladu suggested there can be alot of things that can cause a system to shut down. If it does it again you should first isolate it whether its a software or a hardware issue.

Boot into BIOS and check the system if it shuts down there, then its a hardware fault. However, it seems your system is working fine at the moment. It seems taking out hard-drive and putting it back again has done the trick for you.

If it happens next time it would better you check the system in safe mode and then in BIOS. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

it wasn't over heating. It has a display with temp
thermal paste failure. Its now worked for hours and cool, so not that
fans were working, I took the side off and checked. I didn't check the graphics cars fan as its underneath. Something to check next time
hard drive failure. I tries 3 drives, but could be a cable.....then again,No as I used 2 separate cables
MOBO failure.Hope not as it would mean a new system.
My system does get dusty as its got 8 case fans and sit son the floor. I did give it a good blow out not long ago.(compressor)

It wouldn't boot in safe made either :(
Something I did notice after it was ok.The clock reverted to 1 hour out

Hi dredge3,

I understand after replacing thermal paste it is working fine. If you are still facing issues with the system please post so that we can advise you further.

Hi dredge3,

There can be various possibilities of system restarting. Only way to diagnose is eliminate the possibilities one by one until you reach the cause of the failure.

However, as now your system is working fine it is not easy to locate the cause of the system reboot. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.
