Solved Received BSOD on 04/19/26 after istalling manual windows update

First off, thank you for any help! I was manually installing updates yesterday and had just installed [windows6.1-kb4517297-x64_6c27bad12668a2552e36b1753e913e10d61e88ad] Everything went as expected, clicked RESTART on the Installed window, Windows shut down and gave the Please do not shut down computer... % complete. Then as soon as 100% hit screen went dark and BSOD was filling the monitor. I will say that as BSOD's go, this was the smoothest from BSOD to running PC, It completed shutdown with BSOD timing out. Restarted by continuing the update install to 100% (this has never happened to me before, from BSOD to restart like nothing happened) Then I logged back in and opened BSOD Viewer and then saw the date and stopped and started getting info to start this thread. SysInfo is at We.Transfer File name is ROKU-784-Mon_04_20_2026__92850_37 The zip is inside in case the attachment does not come through. I have attached clips of Update History, and Blue Screen Viewer.

This is my second BSOD in a month and the first one took a System Restore in Safe Mode after hours of windows repair to get started back up.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am currently performing DISM/SFC Scannow and will attach results, I have results from previous scans after the first BSOD if you need them. After the System Restore I noticed that quite a few updates were no longer installed. I have almost all of Manual Updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog of Windows 7 Updates down loaded on my PC. I thought I had all updates installed but I was totally wrong.

Just to be clear this BSOD is for the Toshiba P505 Laptop

Hi Bill,

theres a shedload of corrupt updates....
(msinfo32--- windows error reporting)

You could run the 2 base repair tools
sfc /scannow
KB947821
not sure how much they will clean-up

Synaptics forum (used?) to have back-ups.... not sure now
If they do it will be a long slog to repair your system

It would be easier if you still have an external back-up

Flashplayer is no longer supported and most security forums will ask you to remove it

Hey Torchwood,

Thank for the reply, it is about what I was expecting to hear. I just looked at my "Reliability Monitor" and discovered that my laptop considers windows update "Restart" as an "unexpected shut down" as well as just hitting the Restart button in start menu. I do not have a clue yet what could cause that... So you are suggesting that my best option is to reinstall windows? I do not have a Toshiba reinstall disk unless it is in a partition on the hard disk, I had to clone the original HDD several years ago when it started to fail. I have never installed from a partition before, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Please look at attachments if you don't mind and see what you think.

Yes, it appears that there is a recovery partition installed. And thank you again for your help!

i suspect given the age of that comp, you will require SP1
Please use Simplex to install updates after

as your using the recovery partition Activation should not be a problem

It will be easier if you download/install
1) SP1 (then turn OFF updates... reboot)
2) Your Browser of choice

then install updates via Simplex

Thank you for your advice. I do have a couple of questions though; 1. The original Laptop had a 500 GB HDD, when it went bad, I replaced it with a 1 TB. Will it try to revert my 1TB HDD to a 500GB or give me an option? 2. This computer comes with so much Crap-ware is there a way to reinstall without all the Toshiba Crap, eg; Toshiba Drive Monitor, Toshiba DVD Player, Toshiba Backup, etc.? Or is there a way to safely do it after re installation? It has a Windows Key.

Hi

the size of the drive is irrelevent

Unfortunately as your going to use the recovery partition all the bloatware will be there
Afer install you could remove it using Revo uninstaller (highly reccommended)

As said previously, using the recovery partition the system will include Toshiba's OEM activation files so should automatically activate.... no need for the key in the battery compartment
