I first noticed this issue when I did a fresh install of Windows 7 recently and I noticed that the recent programs in the start list was failing to update new programs that I opened (ones that were not pinned to the taskbar) and the only way of fixing it was to go to Taskbar and Start Menu properties, untick Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu, apply, and then switch it back on again. I initially thought this was an issue with a corrupt install, I tried a clean reinstall and got the same issue. After much experimenting I discovered that the issue occurs when you switch out of an Aero themed desktop to a basic theme, obviously it was occurring on a fresh Windows install because Windows 7 fresh install starts with a basic them by default. I have tried several clean installs and get the same result, I can only think it is a bug, or something to do with a Windows Update?? My particular install of Windows 7 is Windows 7 Home Premium Update (I have to install Vista first), any thoughts? I dont recollect having this issue in the past.
