I'm unable to restore factory settings on my Dell 64bit laptop so ...

I've downloaded Win7 iso from Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River created a bootable disk.

I've got me Win7 key using Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit, for software, hardware and security configuration information on your computer. Software license management, IT asset management, cyber security audits, and more.

so is it ok for me to use the disk + key to reinstall Win7 and clear out the old stuff?

How does the key prevent unauthorised use?

Is there a possibility that Win7 won't let me use it?

You can not use the factory OEM-SLP activation method Product Key that Belarc, may/may not find to reinstall Windows.
