I want something like this, but rather than disallowing a program I want something that asks "Are you sure you want to run xxxxxxxxxxxx"
This is not a security issue, its a 'prevent me from shooting myself in foot' issue.
I have a couple programs that need external disk drives, monitors etc to be available, if they're not and the programs are run I have to take time consuming recovery actions (as in many minutes over a couple of hours).
I don't want to do it by turning on UAC because there's no control over which programs it monitors. I've had it off since 2009 and never had a moments regret - so no lectures on its benefits please.
I also don't want to do it via batch scripts or the like, because I start these programs (sometimes inadvertently - Ay, there's the rub) from the Start Menu or Explorer context menu Open With etc.
What I have in mind is small program I'd run at start up, which would monitor requests to start a program and if its in a list then ask the question with an OK and Cancel buttons. Of course it would need something to add/delete programs to the list.
The developers of the programs I want in the list aren't interested in enhancing their programs to overcome the 'problem'
Anyone know of such a thing?
