Running Windows 7 on Microsoft Virtual PC...

So I installed Windows 7 on Microsoft's Virtual PC but I've run into a couple issues...

The first issue is that I'm unable to get my Windows 7 installation to output any kind of sound whatsoever. I've tried installing a sound driver but the one from my motherboards manufacturers website doesn't work because it's the wrong version of Windows (tried using the Windows Vista 32-bit installer)... Ideas?

The other issue is that my mouses "back button" ("Mouse Button 4" or "Side Button") doesn't function while I'm in the Windows 7 VPC, scrolling and all that fun stuff still works, but the button in question does nothing...

Oh... And I can't get the Aero translucent stuff to work... Most likely because the PC doesn't see the VPC as having a compatible grahpics card... Does anyone know how to fix that?

Hi Freelancer, i don't think you can have aero on a VPC from what others have said and as for sound the only driver that I found works fully for me is R210 all the others would not let me use sound manager.

I was still able to get sound regardless of being able to access soun manager so I don't know if that will fix your problem but it may be worth a try, also maybe try installing your mouse with compatability mode for Vista.

yes aero wont work since this is a vm
not even vmware can do this (sigh)
as for the mouse what kind of mouse is this...
generally VPC defaults to the 2 button + scrollbar....

love my wacom pen and pressure sensitivity...
wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
I've got a Logitech MX Revolution, I did install the Logitech SetPoint software with compatibility mode enabled, but it didn't enable anything extra, and it wouldn't recognize my mouse.

My soundcard is integrated into my motherboard (ASUS Striker Extreme) so it's a SoundMAX driver that's required... Any tips on getting those from places other than the motherboard manufactuerer?

were you able to install VM machine additions??
see the thing is that VPC emulates the hardware..
and did you download VPC SP1??

this is what VPC emulates
* 32-bit Intel Pentium II processor (but virtualizes the host processor on Windows versions) with an Intel 440BX chipset
* standard SVGA VESA graphics card (S3 Trio 32 PCI with 4 MB Video RAM, adjustable in later versions up to 16 MB)
* system BIOS from American Megatrends (AMI)
* Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA PnP (when Vista is installed as both the host (main) and guest (virtual) Operating systems, then the need to set audio configuration is removed, as the guest (Virtual) OS automatically synchronizes the settings with the host (main) Operating System.)
*DEC 21041 (DEC 21140 in newer versions) Ethernet network card.

it seems it i was wrong...
usb emulation is not supported so only default input hardware can be installed...
USB emulation in Virtual PC for Windows

i know Vmware can do this though you will have to "technically install" it in vmware..
the thing is you cannot use it in your host though...

You all should be running VirtualBox - end of story. It's free, much less resource intensive than VMWare, and supports Hardware Virtualization OOB....
