Runtime Library error in trying to launch Windows Explorer

For a few days, I am unable to open up Windows Explorer in Win7 64-bit. I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error, "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." Eeks!

I've done some research and have found suggestions to uninstall and then install the library. However, I didn't find it unambiguous - there were several possible library files that I could uninstall.

So I thought I'd try upgrading to Windows 10 tonight and hopefully the library would be intact. Just before doing this, I deleted a large desktop folder. I did do a backup and am, as I write, restoring that folder - phew! But I could not use the Recycle Bin to more easily undo my deletion.

So ... any thoughts about whether I should resolve this problem (and how) before upgrading? I'd like my recycle bin to be intact even after the upgrade but am guessing it won't be. Thanks!

Hi Dilip,
W10 wont care about 7, its a complete new OS in its own right.

You can uninstall all of them (4?), they all have years after them 2008 2010 2012 etc.
then REBOOT.

If you have any programs that require it, a pop-up will appear and tell you which one.

Thanks. So I think I'll then just upgrade and have Win Explorer again. Will I have my old recycle bin? It sounds like not. Thanks!
