Hi can anyone help please.
I have a HTPC that I am really happy with except the noise. I purchased a Samsung Evo 840 250gb to replace the chattery hard drive, secure erased using Samsung magician and then cloned using the Samsung migration tool. I set the BIOS to boot from this drive. Everything boots up fine until about 8 seconds in and then the CPU starts to climb and the blue busy circle starts, this then causes the fans to cut in which now makes it noisier than the hard drive!!
I reverted back to the hard drive and it boots up as normal no issues so I can only assume there is an issue with the SSD?
Any help would be massively appreciated.
Kind regards.
Nubee

I have a Samsung EVO 840 500 gb SSD. I replaced a smaller SSD drive on Windows 7. I tried cloning with the Samsung program and with Macrium Reflect and neither booted up properly. I had to use Macrium Reflect and "restore" to the new SSD from a complete drive backup.

I would suggest doing that, backing up the hard drive to some other media and then restoring to the new drive. If you don't have a backup program, there is a free version of Macrium Reflect that you can use.

Thanks Fireberd
I have ordered a 128GB USB Stick to try this and will report back.
I just cannot work out why it seems to finish booting up fine and then starts to climb? Its as if an application has started?
Regards

Can't say. But I would try the restore procedure and see how that goes as it sounds like the clone didn't work properly.

Hi Fireberd
I downloaded Macrium Reflect and damn that`s an unfriendly user interface!
I tried a couple of times to create a backup to a Western Digital Passport i had knocking around without success.
So i tried to clone the Samsung SSD direct using Macrium. Success! No Spinning circle and CPU usage is at an acceptable level. Now to install a quiet CPU cooling system and i am nearly sorted.
Many thanks for your sage advice.
