Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 overheating?

I recently looked into this cards performance and even used furmark to banchmark test it. THIS program made the card reach 91c before I stopped it.

I recently got MSI Afterburner to test it out even more accurately and it gave me readings of 79c only after maybe 4-5 minutes of play on Metro 2033 with High settings.

It just worries me that it may be overheating at times.

I'm sure some of the ATI guys will chime in on this one because the temps are very high. Not being familiar with CCC or MSI after burner I still would think their would be a section to control the fan speed you might want to to look into it as well as if your fan is not being impeaded by dust bunnies with a good clean out, it is possible you could also just have a failing fan.
But like I said the ATI guys can give you more defenitive information on how to go about reducing your temps. Fabe

I've only had it installed for maybe 2 (2.5) weeks, so there's virtually no dust on it, plus I cleaned out the system when I installed it. Just looked at it too, and the fan seems to be working fine, and I think the fan is set to "auto" or something, but generally at 40%, but I may weak it to work harder during gameplay.

I would suspect those temps are about normal due to the stress being done by the program. Most games aren't going to push the card like that.

You might want to use a program like GPU-Z or even ATI's CCC panel to check your idle temps. To give perspective my 4890 run about 61 idle, about 87ish load

I have a HD 5770 too and 3Dmark vantage. the highest temp. I got on my HD 5770 while benchmarking (high preset) with 3Dmark is 76 C on auto-fan.

i keep my fan speed @35rpm is in audible for my quiet pc
and i let it hit 90 at 35rpm overclocked to 960-1445 stock volt .ive set msi afterburner to up my speed when it hit 90c
id rather have a shorter living gpu aslong as i have nice silent pc
but if i had higher end card id be abit more worried
p.s i changed thermal paste and my gpu has dropped temps by a massive 3c

And from your responses, it seems that bouncing around 80 isn't so terrible for the card when pushing it with a game. Though I am tempted to overclock the card using Afterburner to get those max settings in the game running well (ran well for the most part, but too much action bogged it down).

Though when I raised the core clock and memory clock the idle temp jumped to 53c from 46c.

yes my max idle is about 44c
but if ure using 10.5 or 10.6 average idle temp is 50c for 5770 because of the higher idle clock

edit. im not sure why ure idle temp went higher when you overclocked because idle clock doesnt change
you didnt have youtube open by any chance did you or something that uses UVD (Unified Video Decoder) that ups idle speeds

Nope, I literally had nothing open but the programs that read GPU stats.

Furmark is designed to stress your gpu and heat it up, so 91c doesn't seem far fetched. Also, 79c is not too bad--maybe slightly high, but not terrible in gaming.

I just played it extensively with it slightly overclocked (maybe 10%) and it ran around 85-86c (Metro 2033).

My Radeon HD 5850 runs about 63-65C under normal load.

I have never ran FurMark because I do not care about synthetic tests or benchmarks. I'd be concerned as it seems that they brag about the damage that their software can do.
