Seemingly random BSOD while idle or loaded (in use)

I am currently in process of helping a friend fix his computer, it has been down for months.

I reformatted the computer two days ago to start fresh, still getting BSOD. The computer was not booting before the reformat.

Memtest86+ passed with zero errors, and I am going to run it overnight tonight for more passes.
sfc /scannow came back fine.

Hello and welcome atago yesmate you need to run t for at very minimum 8 passes unless the errors come thick and fast see pic

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html this one you will need to make a bootabledisk set the BIOS to optical (or USB ifpreferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8 passes unless the errors come up straight away. Takesfair time to complete and some leave itrunning overnight.

When you run the memtest if the errorscome up straight away a in my pic then you will need to test each stick if you havemore than one and if it is only onethen test again in another slot because it could also be a fault on the board. Froexample you have say two slots A & B and RAM sticks 1 & 2 you need totest with both sticks in. When there are errors then you must proceed to teststick 1 in slot A and then slot B if this does not show errors where there wasbefore then you need to test stick 2 in slot A and then B. This is because itmay not be the stick that is at fault (usually is) but could be the slot andthe board is then suspect.

I had already run memtest86+, and was running again overnight- 10 passes, 0 errors. Again.

Sorry mate just making sure as some do say they have done it but have onlydone minimal passes.

Is there a way you can test the hard drive using a USB to SATA / IDE adaptoron another machine?? (see pic) The obvious one to try is this http://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

I ask because looking at some of the system details the machine dates from about 2010??

The current HDD is a new one (he thought the old one was the problem).

I have one of those at the office, I will try to snag it today or tomorrow.

Good mate and there is always the possibility the drive may be bad eh? even though it is new and then easily fixed.

Ran diagnostics on the hard drive, perfectly healthy drive according to WD Diagnostic tools.
