hi,

sorry if this is a dupe post but i really can not be bothered reading through 15k of threads.

anyway, since i got win7 ultimate iv been having really bad internet problems. the problem isnt the internet, because i can connect to steam and websites perfectly. but when i try to connect to a game server, download a file through a browser or teamview someone it connects for about 40 seconds (as logged by teamviewer) then it just dies. for downloads in the browser it will just drop to 0kb/s and i have to pause and unpause it for it to work, for teamviewer the viewing screen just locks up, as for game servers its a bit stupid. i tried to connect to a blackops server yesterday and it kicked me off straight away (cos it takes almost a minute for me to get onto the server), but for like a garrysmod server i can connect no problem. also my internet has been extremely slow. im currently on ADSL 2+ and im not capped.

i have tried swapping out the network card and its made no difference. is there any way to fix this? and if there is can you Please tell me whats wrong? id prefer to know whats wrong and how to fix it.

thanks in advance.

EDIT: everyone elses internet in the house works fine. Also i recently swapped (dual booted) xp with 7 and i had to change to a newer network card for 7. xp worked fine with the internet.

And you are positive it is not capped?

That could be any number of things.

Drivers
Router
Modem
Browsers
or other

or a combination of any or all of them.

When you swapped the NIC, was it the same model?
Did you reinstall the drivers? If yes, did you uninstall them fully first?

some basics to try also would be,,,

Did you try to run Repair on the Network Connection?

at a cmd prompt
type ipconfig /flushdns
type ipconfig /registerdns

What model/type router do you have?
Have you tried bypassing the router and hook straight to modem?

Is this system connected with a cable or WIFI?

Are you running any Internet Protection Suites?
Additional Firewalls?

Those are some things that I can think of right now.

yes we arent capped..we have unlimited download. everyone else in the family has perfectly working internet its not slow or stopping or anything.

when i put in the new card for windows 7, i think 7 had the drivers bundled cos it worked straight away.

when i swapped the card it was the same model and everything, but dad had used the card before and there wasnt any problems.

as for the rest, there isnt a problem with it connecting to the internet its just that it cant keep a connection for more then about 40 seconds. pages take ages to load and youtube vids only load about a minute.

when i was running windows XP i had no problems with the internet. it worked fine. The new card however doesnt work with windows XP.

i dont think its a browser problem as steam does it too when im downloading the games.

iv put it down to it being windows 7 and/or the network card not being fully compatible with my motherboard.

im currently running PC Tools Firewall Plus which i installed about 3 weeks after i installed 7.

EDIT: im sure this isnt a net problem but more of a problem with windows itself, but since i changed to 7 iv noticed everything seems to be crashing when i do something :S its rather annoying. Steam has been crashing spontaneously and the games through steam have been doing the same. Also the UDK has been crashing my computer D: .

I will tell you now that it is NOT a problems with Windows 7.
This a PC problem, either bad hardware, bad install of something.

Download the drivers for the NIC from the manufacturer, could be a compatibility issue, but this is not a problem with Windows 7 itself.

I have been downloading a lot from steam lately and downloaded 3 games at one time.
It is not Windows 7, it is something wrong with your PC, regardless of whether XP has issues.

Could be compatibility issues with your hardware and windows 7, but that is not a Windows 7 fault.
