Solved Servicing Stack 2019-09 kb4516655 & some updates fail clean install.

Solution:

I had to do a Repair Install Repair Install

because there was a problem (corruption) with Windows Update after I clean installed windows 7 and attempted to install

Rollups (aka SP2 and other updates) in a way that is not current and was likely erroneous in other ways too.

Used Simplix post Repair to install Security updates only or mostly? then installed individual ones.

Repair Install Compatibility Error:You can't upgrade 64-bit Windows...

I had a link to a page here at sevenforums something like, prefered method of clean install ,but I can't find it - search the forum. Ask questions.

As for the repair install (aka in-place upgrade, NOT startup repair), make sure you have your original Setup disc or USB drive or ISO download, NOT just a recovery Disc - Though this is royally confusing issue especially if you are working with upgrades and downgrades, so probably best to confirm with the forum before proceeding! And if necessary redownload appropriate version of Windows from MS.

Easy to say, but make sure you know about topics, such as how to make bootable media etc... IMGBurn is great and so is Rufus.

Also, hide any sharp objects during this process ;)

That's it for me folks!

Having trouble with KB4516655 not updating on Win 7 64 bit machine he

Hi Cittizin7, Hello and goodbye
We have a 64 bit Windows 7 machine that will not install KB4490628, KB4570673, KB4575903, KB4592510, KB4598289, KB4598279, KB4565354. These are essential so we can install the Extended support keys for 3 years of support. Please note we are in an airgapped offline environment also so cannot connect to the internet to get updates

The machine keeps complaining that the windows module installer should be installed first but looking up support articles it shows KB4490628 and KB4474419 have been superceded by
[FONT=&quot]kb4516655 but I cant get that to install either despite the machine being in the correct OU for wsus. I have tried rebooting it several times to no avail.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted please

Sas
