Setup exit code: 0x00009C59 installing IE10 and Empty Win Feature List

Yep - uninstall 9,and se if IE8 re-appears.
If not, then go to 'Turn Windows features on and off) in Programs & Features, and uncheck the entry for it there, reboot, and re-check the entry. Click OK, and reboot, then see if IE has re-appeared.

Hi Noel,

The IE 9 files are not there so I cannot uninstall it. It's also not in the 'Turn Windows features on and off' dialog.

I have therefore decided to do a repair install as you suggested, this will hopefully get me back to a base position.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Anthony

I'd be inclined to avoid installing IE10 for the moment - a little bird has told me that someone has lit a large bonfire under the IE team to rewrite the installer.
No idea when a revised installer will be available yet.

It seems to be one of those things that either goes well (as all my installs have) or is rather a nightmare to deal with - like the ones that we see here.

Well, I'm now back where I started and I'm not going to start the IE10 install again.

I ran CheckSUR and still have one error?

I attach the cbs.log and CheckSUR.log

cheers,

Anthony

The CheckSUR shows the following problem...
Code:
Unavailable repair files:
 winsxs\manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-w..wsupdateclient-core_31bf3856ad364e35_7.6.7600.256_none_d5f513f25190f276.manifest

The CBS log shows nothing out of the ordinary - but there are no SFC results in it.
Please run an SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log, just in case.

....and yes, current advice is not to force an install of IE10 if it fails first time for any reason - MS is apparently working on an improved installer.

I've uploaded a file -tanaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\tanaa

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\tanaa
or
DIR E:\tanaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\tanaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs\Manfests /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs\Manifests /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file

Also run a new CheckSUR scan, and post the new CheckSUR.log file

Ah, good!

Both CheckSUR and SFC are now clear - what about the rest of your symptoms?
Please don't attempt to install IE10 yet, until you've checked that everything else works properly - failed installs have a nasty habit of being reparable only by a repair install of the OS.
