SFC /SCANNOW fails, also will not perform an in place upgrade..

Generally, if the RAM is installed properly (paired) I think it will either run each pair at their own speed, or ramp DOWN to the slowest stick. You need to check the motherboard/chipset spec for that.
Always best to have matched RAM all of the same spec (and preferably all of the same batch! - even very minor differences of the line can cause problems)

The owner and i had a LONG conversation covering this and many other subjects just before I left yesterday, he's gonna drop to 8gb of ram from 16gb, so as to only use one set of mem because it was surely causing some issue somewhere, when i looked in the bios after putting all of the ram back in it was running it all at 10-10-10-24? instead of splitting or matching the slowest, wont boot at 10 10 10 28, the sad part is that he got the ram as a set like 4 years ago, all purchased at the same time, supposed to be matched set (brought box in yesterday), he has had intermittent issues since installing the ram, actually to be honest with you he has had random issues since the purchase of the pc from SYX, but over the 5 years of ownership it has spent 11mos in transit to/from or at the manufacturer in total, which is sad if you ask me...

but i digress (sorry for the vast number of run on sentences), on a brighter note, with 1 stick of 4gb ram installed, i got the windows 7 in-place upgrade to take, ran every update all passed but one from 3 years ago that deals with a client update to .net 4.0 so i hid it ran sfc in os and it passed, plus the ssd isn't throwing anymore errors (wonder if some of that was related to ram also...) Ill post back as things happen, will be playing with diff mem configs all day as i only have one other pc to mess with

update 5-5:
so i messed with the ram a lot, it just seems like the mobo doesnt handle the diff speeds well, as soon as they are mixed (2 of 1 type and 1 of the other, or even 1 and 1) the computer starts to act oddly, works fine with 1 set or the other, but some weird things start to happen with the diff sets in there, passes mem tests, but the pc just doesn't seem to be writing all of the changes i make to the system to disk when there is more than one speed of ram, been fixing pcs 5-6days a week for the last 4 years and never once saw anything like this, does it sound like a mobo error? should i maybe consider pricing new boards out for this guy also? or do you think it's more of a chipset oddity, because i know that intel (AMD also, but you get the point) chipsets have all kinds of wierd things that can happen, such as incompatibilities and what not
