Solved Shadow Copy error when trying to create a restore point in Windows 7

I have two different DVD burners. It's not likely that since I encode video from time to time and have used both for loading a clone program.

There is a guide from Macrium and I'm following that. If I have to do a long download which the link is supposed to avoid, I'll follow the guide along.

At setup of Macrium I used all the defaults. I saw no long download to do.
The one process of writing (what mbr etc?) to a dvd disk was brief. I used a dvd expecting a load of what you've given-- a portable Win 7 but I'm not finding that through the program.

Perhaps there is an alternate .iso site?

I'm still not clear as to how performing the image operation will _negate_ the VSS problem in conflicting with Restore.

Would a chkdsk /f/r do a repair?
Or run the sfc (System File Checker) fix routine?

I thought I had the cure with this:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH83223

which talks about purging the volume copy service. Notice that the
screen shot is for Windows Vista, not Win 7.

I played around with "Quota" in the Win 7 windows for the troublesome drive and restarted. It failed to remove the VSS error.

However I noticed at one of these quota screens (I can post shortly) there's a huge number at "Guest" which on the computer is an account which is turned off. I can't account for this at all.

That brings me up to date on any searches I've attempted to solve this.

A screen shot of the file build up on the Guest account.

All the bangs (exclamations) are red and out of limit.

Volume Shadow Copy Service Error 0x80042302

There is a solution to the problem of the Volume Shadow Copy Service error which I happened on
by accident after having searched days for a solution.

The error code says that Volume Shadow Copy Service is turned off.

Simply put, I went to msconfig, opened "Services" and way down the list Volume Shadow Copy Service was the only item unchecked in the Services list. Checking the box and restarted allowed
System Restore to proceed and also any other programs like Malwarebytes and Junkware Removal Tool
which create restore points.

This solution worked for my problem. There may be other error codes which would not help
the Restore problem in this way.

My big beef is that the Error message says nothing about checking for the VSS to be
on rather than off. Since I don't mess with these settings I'm wondering if a program or
malware caused all this grief.

Go to

Start > msconfig > click on the Services tab > then you can click the Enable all button and Apply followed by restart-- or search the list (it's not all alphabetically organized) and see of Volume Shadow Copy is checked in the list, check that and restart.

I confirmed the error code by unchecking it and copying down the error reported. I also checked it on my primary and backup disk.

Advise if I put this in the wrong heading. I read Backup and Restore just below Performance and Maintenance to be for restoring an image.

Should I start a new thread on that Quota problem shown in the screenshot above?

I attempted to do that under system tools but it was ineffective or the wrong instruction.
