Shortcuts on Desktop

Other than Pinning to the Taskbar - is there a way to arrange shortcuts on the desktop so that they will remain in the same position after a reboot?

Right click on the desktop and mouse over View. Ensure that the two options Auto arrange icons and Align icons to grid are unchecked (not ticked).
