I'm new here, so I don't know exactly where this thread should go.
I made a really stupid mistake, even for me; I hard-shutdown (long press power button) while the system was preparing to hibernate.
I changed the settings so that one press of the power button would hibernate, and then a while later, accidentally pressed it. Nothing happened, though, so I thought I hadn't. Then explorer froze up, and I couldn't open the task manager, so I shutdown.
Tried to start it again, got a BSOD, which flashed too fast too read. Now Windows is telling me to insert my Windows Disc and run startup repair. One problem though: I don't have one. I tried opening HBCD and running chkdsk on the 100 MB boot partition and the main partition. That fixed some errors, but I still can't boot. The tools available to me are:
HBCD
Ubuntu 12.04 live USB (which I'm writing this from)
Internet (obviously)
I've run Windows Memory Diagnostic with no errors. I have no aversion to losing data, since there isn't anything I don't have a backup of, though I would like to avoid reinstalling Windows, since I do not have the disc handy, and I do not plan on purchasing a copy. I should mention that this is not the OEM Windows that came with the laptop. That got messed up some time ago, and the one I have now is reinstalled from the store (I think they used the license key under the laptop?). Yes, I am very accident prone. Anyway, I'm inclined to believe it's a partition or partition table error of some sort, though I am admittedly not very experienced, so... y'know.
I would really appreciate help, and the faster the better
Please do not tell me to take it back for servicing unless that is the ONLY fix.
