So...yeah, I'm feeling kind of lonely as a Vista user..

In my trials with Windows 7, I liked it but as I used it consistently my interest gradually decreased. This is mostly due to the fact that I still run Vista on my two primary computers and run Win7 on two systems I keep to use when I'm not at college.

My point is this: while I understand Win7 is trying to lure those who stayed away from Vista and continued to use XP, as a Vista user I feel like Windows 7 hasn't made me feel as welcome. It does have spit-and-polish but their new features like Aero Shake and Snap don't seem that...functional.

However, at the same time, I haven't really dug down deep into the OS. I know the new HomeGroup features are touted as the next major step in multi-system synergy but since I don't have a large collective of Win7 systems all in one place, I can't really test out the range of these features. For resource-intensiveness, I haven't felt any degree of improvement over Vista (which DID cause a significant performance jump when installed it on my once-XP laptop) but maybe it's there and working in subtle ways. I don't have a netbook but I have heard good things in that department.

All-in-all, I guess what I'm trying to say is Win7 to Vista people is going more lateral than forward. Not saying that's a bad thing because maybe we were never the intended targets anyway (that is MS probably won't freak out as much as they did when XP users held their ground when Vista first touched down).

Now, feel free to tell me I completely missed something.

I agree with you to a point. I know my Desktop has done fine with Vista x64 RTM since I installed it back in mid '07. My Lappie on the other hand always has issues but that was probably due to the awkward OEM build that came with it. I since wiped the HDD and did a fresh x64 Win 7 RC install and all is great. My Main PC is still running Vista (now SP2) really well and I still use it for 90% of my computing. I guess I'm still waiting on RTM to do a sweeping change over on all 3 of my home systems (Main PC and mine and wife's Lappie) and see how that goes. But I think that the streamlining of extra features (i.e. movie maker etc.) and making those optional items is a good way to go as it makes the system more customizable. That if you don't use it you don't have it clogging up the system. (I'm speaking from a Joe 6pack User level as opposed to us who have a more advanced level of OS knowledge) But now I'm just rambling on and on....

I haven't installed the RC to my two main systems. Seems like a lot of hassle to go through for just an RC when Vista works.

If and when I go to 7 on any computer I use frequently, it will be after it's out at retail. On top of that, I'm actually planning a new build to commemorate the arrival of Windows 7 (this system will be two years old in August and, while good, I think I want to try a new processor).

So I'm not in a hurry to migrate, even though I still want to in a way.

Don't feel bad. Vista is still a damn good OS IMO, especially after 2 service packs worth of fixes and updates. I love 7 and all, but I wouldn't have a problem keeping Vista around. I have an older machine (only 2 years old) laying around that I'm not using, but I'm thinking of firing up Vista on it again, if nothing else, because that comp has an OEM key for Home Premium and I might as well use it.

I understand you, i felt that way when i was the first one leaving XP behind for Vista (beta, back then). People took a while upgrading machines, and starting the migration to it, later.

Now the same happened with W7, and im not leaving it for nothing, not even for XP. I tryed it (maybe to say goodbye lol) for the last time, with same sig, to understand the performance differences, and i can asure you W7 is the only one who feels like making your hardware fully running at his capabilitys.

I agree with you. IMO, Vista was technically the revamped OS with many many kernel changes, while 7 is a paint job and polish so that lay people will welcome it. I do miss having a HD based Recovery Console though!

1. Out of the Box Codec Support ( except the mkv container...)
2. QAM support for Media Center (You could do this in Vista, but it wasn't supported)
3. Shortcut Keys (minimizing, resizing, moving stuff, maximing) without having to use the mouse. You could do some of these things already, but they are better in 7.
4. Boot Time(Vista wasn't bad, but 7 is better out of the box)
5. Device Center
6. The Libraries are way better in Windows 7 than Vista, at least concerning Windows. It is much more integrated into the OS. Ex. Media Center now uses the libraries correctly.
7. Navigation pane on the left of windows a lot more consistent and cleaner looking in 7.... That could be a personal preference though... And it's more of a clean up I guess...

9. The start sound in Media Center sounds like I'm at Disneyland

I still like Vista, but these reasons are a lot of the main reasons I have a hard time going back...

In case I have any of this wrong, I apologize, it is possible I've forgotten exactly how vista worked and gave more credit to 7 than was due, but I think they are all correct.
