Hello folks,

I Messed up and didn't do my homework about problems with installing 64bit Win 7 on a Vaio that doesn't offer windows 7 drivers. I've managed to fix most things, but I tried updating my video card and it put the standard vga driver on it, not recognizing my 8400m GT. I've fixed it before, but forgot how, and I cannot find a .inf that is compatible with my card.

Also, if anyone is feeling ambitious I've got a few other problems... I cannot get the Synaptic Touchpad to be recognized by DevMan. It sees it as a standard usb mouse. Its hardware id is ACPI\SNY9008. I'm also having random bluescreens, and cannot close most games that I'm playing if they are cpu/gpu intensive games. It just stays as a black screen until I close it through task manager.

Thanks for any help in advanced.

I managed to fix the GPU problem by myself, but if anyone has any ideas on the others let me know.

download that program, it will give you more detailed reports of your BSODs. most important info you could post would be the driver name and the error code causing the crash.

as for the touchpad you do have the driver software installed correct?

I have two separate error codes. First, was caused by bad driver ntoskrnl.exe (0x0000001e) and was a System_Service_Exception. This was on the 2/06/11, and I have replaced the RAM in the machine since then, thinking that it might be a RAM error. The second was on 1/28/11, and was a dxgmms.sys (0x0000003b) which would have to be related to direct x. I just installed the newest video driver compatible to my card (8400m GT) yesterday from NVidia since Sony won't provide them, and have not had issues with a blue screen yet. After I installed the new RAM, I still had a system lockup with sound loop while playing a game, but hopefully the video driver might have fixed it.

As to the touchpad, I've installed both sony's and synaptics drivers for it (sony's wasn't 64bit, but i uninstalled it and put synaptics 64bit driver on it). They either install or do nothing, or say that I do not have compatible hardware (but it is a synaptic touchpad).

It's possible the video driver may help you out. Can you post the entire dump file from the two crashes that you specified using BlueScreenView? Just to see if there are any other external drivers that may have caused NTOSKRNL.exe to crash.

Do I just attach them and post them here?

Sorry this took so long. Not sure if it's what you want or not. Let me know otherwise. This site won't let me upload a dump file, but I'm wondering if I rename it to a .txt if it will matter at all as long as you change it back to a dump file?
