SP2 RC for Vista and Server 2008 goes public

mine running vista ult 32bit sp1 is a acer travelmate 2140, 1.73ghz celeron, 2gb 667 ram, onboard intel graphics accelerator, audio, wifi, 50gb ata hdd, cdrw dvd rom combo.

is yours slower specs than that? cos mine runs pretty smooth apart from the slow boot time. plus it has some bad sectors on the drive, but i dont see any problems.

Sorry i haven't updated my specs for a while, im now using it on my laptop with 1gb ram and i can notice the difference and 7 would suit this machine better.

On my main machine the performance is no different but it uses more disk space and more memory on startup than 7.

Saying that performance on my laptop is not bad at all i can just notice 7 was more snappy.

yes thats one reason i like 7 so much its alot quicker.

your on the borderline with 1gb ram, you really need 1.5gb to avoid relying on your pagefile for the o/s with vista or win7 with all the features turned on. that could be part reason why vista runs slow for you especially if your laptop is as old as mine and uses an ata hdd instead of sata. (depending on the quality of the drive too)

As much as I love Windows 7, I would still like to see Vista become what it should have been and personally I have always liked Vista and without it we would not be where we are now, without Vista Windows 7 could not have been and Windows 7 would have been looked down upon just as Vista was because it was so different and unique, for me Vista is a very young OS and still has long way to go before maturity.

Just because it was misunderstood and feared doesn't mean it should not have a place as one of the great OS's that changed the way we look at windows and our expectations. If you want to blame anyone for Vista's failure, blame all the software companies that did not want to support it.

Well said, Mr Grim.

Later ;) Ted

I installed the available SP2 64 bit for Vista and after install and restart it shows a water mark and expiration date. My machine has windows Vista Home Premium legit version from manufacturer. IS it because it is not the final version?

Yes that's correct, when the Final SP2 is released you will need to uninstall the RC and then install the final SP, after the SP2 RC is uninstalled the watermark on the desktop should be removed, Microsoft states that it could take a couple of restarts for it to take effect.

Yes i think your right, though i do have a SATA drive in the laptop (but it gets a far lower score than my Maxtor ATA in main machine lol)..
