SSD performance in seven compared to Xp

I've been messing with different OS's and comparing performance of the intel 80gb gen 2 ssd with different benchmark tools.

I have found the ssd performs better in Xp pro 32 bit than in either 7 32bit or 7 64 bit.
I tried different drivers, intel and Microsofts, on the different OS's.

The performance gains that Xp offers though are only about 5-8Mb/s depending on the benchmark test. This is not substantial enough of a gain for me to consider losing the TRIM function available in 7.

I was wondering if anybody else has done any similar tests?

I certainly have not done those tests. I'm all for performance...but I'm not moving back from Windows 7 back to XP to get it.

Even though Xp was getting better benchmarks it didn't feel anywhere near as quick as 7 does.
I had forgotten how old it looks too when compared to 7.

I wonder whether the performance (especially writes) will be maintained in XP once the whole disk was populated with data and the Trim effect would make a real difference. On a new (or wiped) disk, there may be no difference though.

I am getting a 5% better performance in win 7 over XP, with a 60 gig ocz vertex in IDE mode
no raid. Trim is working perfectly in Win 7 and I am not seeing speed lower with time.

The SSD is the best upgrade I have ever done.

I subscribe to that. Best beat for the buck. But many people shy off because of the initial investment, - although a 30GB Vertex (which is ample for the Win7 OS) sells for only $89 at Newegg right now. Two of them would make a nice Raid0. If I did not have 3 SSDs already, I would get a couple. But as things are, that would get me into trouble with my finance minister - LOL.

The SSD is a good upgrade definately. I've already done a couple of Terrabytes worth of damage to the SSD.
Xp needed the optimizer which in my opinion is a pain, even with it set on a schedule. The auto TRIM function in 7 is excellent.
After 6 or seven hours with intels drivers and no auto trim speeds were a lot slower on my system.

Lots of benchmarks in a short period of time will temporarily degrade the performance of the drive. this could possibly account for some of the loss you see.

No major harm done, as the performance loss will come back on its own, in time.

I only had performance degradation with use when drivers other than those supplied with 7 were used.
I think windows 7 performance was as good as it could be.

Why would anyone still be using Windows XP? Are they still using serial 56K modems and parallel printers as well?

I like to research, test and evaluate. That way I can make informed decisions and inform others of what I have found.

A lot of people still use Xp because it was installed on their pc and never had a reason to change. Some cannot afford to upgrade and to others, like businesses, it doesn't make financial sense. The OS does everything that is required and employees are familiar with it.
