I think it went off topic a while back. Then the original wasn't really a question but an information statement, I think.

On threads like this where it is a news item, it It not so bad, although it's not a great idea to go off topic in a thread that gives news and information on a serious breech of security or the like. and unsubstantiated trolling against a news story which a member does not agree with is unacceptable and will be dealt with according to the site rules we all agree to on joining

A user asking for help is a totally different matter.

Once the issue in a a thread is known the correcting of this should be the only content of the thread, We, unlike other sites do not lock solved threads as they do help new users in the future

Although not the best or recommended thing a clean solved thread will often get a guest to take the jump and become a new member and add comments to the thread such as "I have this issue Too, but slightly different"

These posts can be moved to their own thread and another user helped. Which is the main reason this site exists.

A thread that goes off topic even after being solved does not drive this type of new membership as the information gets lost both on the site and in the search engines

If there is a thread solving a members issue with drivers for their Graphics card , even once it's solved, it is not the place for senior members to discuss The latest card from nvidia or AMD, and certainly not if the card will run in MAC OSX or what they had for breakfast last Thursday or other unrelated stuff

If you want to discuss these things start your own thread in a suitable sub forum and dont clog up other members help threads

Wolfgang, unfortunately not everyone who does not join any forum or joins and decides to leave gives a reason for their decisions, although a very few do. We therefore have to use common sense and logic along with the very few comments we do receive.

Only login records would show if a op returns after creating a thread
Wouldn't be the first time someone asked a question and never returned after finding an answer or figuring out the problem after and just didn't bother to post the solution

I asked the 'statistical' question because from what I can see, there is really no data to draw conclusions regarding people's movements in and out. But maybe back at the ranch there is more data.

Above the word 'statistical' represents 'statistics' in plural sense where statistics means numerical facts and figures measured and collected with a definite purpose. Such a statistical enumeration is possible for a quantitative variable. It is either ratio scale or interval scale.

New members leaving/non leaving, on the other hand, is a qualitative property. It can be observed, but cannot be measured quantitatively. It is having binary outcome, like success/failure. It is nominal scale.
So unfortunately statistical data cannot be obtained in such a case. If we want to do regression of it with threads going off-topic (and that will be a subjective measurement) we have to assign dummy variables to it.

The essence is, discrete figures cannot be available. One either have to observe it or have to depend on others observation.

Barman58 is a dependable observer to me. He is moderating the forum over a very long time, observing anything and everything, keeping things in line and many more. If he says that there is a high degree of association between one qualitative measurement and another subjective measurement relating to the forums, then I will take his word.

I did kind of think about another way to execute trim on a ssd
Simply make a system image
Reflect actually does the trim operation when it creates an image
Then just restore the image :/
