Start Menu White Background

First of all I would like to thank all the contributors to this forum for making it so easy for people like me to customise their windows 7. I have managed to get just about everything that I wanted done, except...

When I click the start button and the start menu opens I have a nice transparent right column and next to it the horrid white space is there a way of making the whole menu transparent?

You could check on deviantART: where ART meets application! for a theme that would suit,or you could use one of mr.grims, heres his new one
http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/34130-dark7-ultimate-theme-windows-7-x64-x86-beta.html

Heres the tutorial- http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/28377-theme-how-apply-custom-themes.html

Just be careful, some themes work in 64bit and not in 32 bit.

Dan

Thanks Dan but I dont want to change my theme it took me ages to get rid of the user picture and if I change it comes back even on my saved theme.

The above should be what your looking for:)

I would use resorator to make the changes of a copy, then change the name of the original theme and paste your copy fully done into the file folder, incase you make mistakes that is,but if your confident then there would be no need:D

I have tried before to open a theme file in restorator but it tells me it is an unsupporeted file.
Any thoughts?
It says in the guide to open the original file first with restorator,as in the theme you downloaded,i take it you did donwload a theme?

That's what I did. Restorator won't open a theme file

To change to a custom theme download UXStyle Core: UxStyle - no more patching.. This will mod the files needed to run a custom theme

The easiest way is to run UXStyle Core...download the new theme and stick it in the resources\themes folder.

I can't get it to install.

I think this is too complex for me and suddenly the white space doesn't look so bad.
Thanks for your help

Does it go through the entire process? It probably did install as it doesn't create any shortcuts when complete

Your theme subsystem (eg uxtheme.dll,themeui.dll) has been tampered with.USXStyles requires these files be restored before you continue.Check the forums if you need help

Im running SFC /SCANNOW to see if it will correct it,probably has something to do with using cutom themes.

Here's what I don't get. How come when someone wants to change just one aspect of a theme, people keep telling them to completely change their present theme to a different one? That doesn't make sense.

Possible Tutorial?

MadMax419:
I guess in order to test the theme you have to replace the whole thing? I don't know for sure.

Could someone please write a tutorial that shows how to put a picture in #806,#807 and #817?

Do you keep the size of the picture? Do you get the wXL of the picture by snipping the picture to the white area of the startmenu?

Nope, you just have to look at it to see if it's working...LOL

John:party::confused::orb:
I have no idea what your talking about replacing #806 picture and stuff. That's a pretty vague question. Care to elaborate?

Also, in the opening post, did you take that screenshot with a theme already installed and running? If so, the start menu background color should have changed if you saw it changed in the theme preview. And why do have problems changing your user account picture? You should be able to just click on your user-name picture in the start menu, then click change your picture to browse for a different one. If your having problems with that, then you have bigger problems than worrying about your theme.
