Start window grows when application run

I have a start window showing the last programs run which defaults to 10 items viewed. However every time I run I run a program it is added to that list. This is bloody annoying as I have over 50 items that I have to manually unpin from the list. Can this be stopped? I have been through the Task bar and Menu properties but can not find anything.

try going into the start menu and clicking costonize, and then click restore defaults and see what it does.
