svchost.exe using 12 GB of RAM? 4000/s hardware faults?

I'm having issues with bad computer performance, sluggishness and extremely high memory usage in svchost.exe. I am struggling to find the source of the issue, though I know it exists, finding the exact cause is a problem.


On top of this, my memory faults a second are at 4000! Very high.

Any help with this is appreciated.

I restarted as I do when my memory caps, but I can post the screencap when the symptoms inevitably return.

That would be a good idea. It's not svchost.exe that is the problem. One of the services running under it will most likely be the culprit.

Memory leak issue came back, here are the services running.


EventSystem, Wdiservicehost, fdphost, netprofm, nsi, sstpsvc, fontcache, W32Time, winhttpautoproxysvc.

Okay well that rules out Windows Update service as the culprit. In that case I'm not sure that I could help but I have seen other posts involving NSI Service in this thread where installing kb3050265 is said to have worked.

Interesting, how do I go about installing this? This is an optional update?

Okay forget that update - it's an update for Windows Update client. You could install it but it won't fix the problem. Your problem doesn't lie with windows updates.

So I am really guessing here. I see NSI service is one of those you listed. Could that be related to these posts?

Edit: Do you have RAMMap?

If you run it when you see the high memory usage on the "file summary" tab sort "active" from highest to lowest and see what shows up.

Thanks Layback Bear, I installed it, hopefully it fixes the problem. I had some RAM fail, wouldn't be surprised if it was from all the memory leaks I was getting, it was becoming a huge system hog and that kind of stress probably brought the hardware to its knees.
