Synaptics installs, no Control Canel Mouse tab to disable trackpad

I took the TB mech drive out with Windows 8 and put in my own Samsung TB SSD (after shipping delayed to Friday and I had to go out and blow another $150 to buy the drive locally). I got Windows 7 installed clean on that SSD on the 17 inch Acer Aspire Nitro.

Then I go to install Synaptics from the Acer driver website (hooray for NO direct link to drivers!) and while it does install it refuses to give me the control panel tab with the option to disable the touchpad while a mouse is plugged in!

So you're going to give me a control panel mouse tab, right...?

The only software utilities I can find only disable the touchpad while typing, I need it disabled all the time unless I don't have a dedicated mouse plugged in.

I've also tried third party manufacturers, Acer's India-based tech support can't answer even the most simple questions and Google is dead set on shoving Windows 8 down my throat (I'm averaging about four - operators per search query at this point).

How do I make my computer obey?

Hi

Is their a button on laptop itself that turns the touch pad off on some models of acer laptops it's to the left of the power button.

Ah, there is actually, different from my Lenovo laptop. The big question is: will I have to manually press FN+F7 (on my model) every-single-time I have to engage in sacrilegious activities like a reboot?

I'm not sure of that. Give it a try. See if it stays disabled after a restart.

It worked! By worked I mean it didn't! I did a sacrilegious reboot and the preference was remembered. I'm not sure how though I am grateful that it worked.

Thank you.

I'd still love to find legitimate older version of the software that will work, I loathe coming across forum threads where someone gets off scott-free (like I did) in a proprietary manner (they'll be using like a Dell, HP, etc while I'm using an Acer) and they won't have that option but they'll still have the problem.

So any suggestions on third party software that does this explicitly?

I don't know of any to suggest. Do you have a an icon on left side of tool bar for the touch pad? If so can you right click it and get an option to turn off TouchPad when mouse is connected.

My Synaptics driver has a icon in the system tray and the mouse properties show a 6th tab called Device Settings that has an option to disable the internal mouse when a usb mouse is plugged in.
Try this:

Yeah, maybe I forgot to mention that I tried the drivers directly from Synaptics in addition to trying the drivers from Acer.

I mean the FN+F7 works though there are going to be a thousand other people who have this problem and try to always find a working answer. :)

Thanks but it didn't work and the reply form decided it didn't need to work a day or two ago.
