Sync question.

I have a laptop I have (up to this point) used for 100% of my computing. I am opening an office, and will have a desktop permanantly located at that office for work. What is the best way (if there is one) for me to keep both computers as close to the same at all times with as close to indentical info updated on each. Both are Windows 7. Laptop is Professional and desktop is Home Premium. I can put Pro on the desktop if necessary. No wireless connections are allowed at that office.

I assume you want to keep your user files in sync. For that I would go the simple and safe route. Put the user folders on a 2.5" USB powered disk and "Include" the folders into the libraries of both systems. Then when you switch systems, just take the little disk along.

For system files, program updates and system settings there is no obvious scheme anyhow.

And if the idea of taking a USB along doesnt sound very appealing, there is always services like Dropbox which you can use to sync your files to different computers.

I sync some folders between a desktop and a laptop - but only about once per week. In have no router but a Netgear ethernet switch that sits between my modem and the desktop. From there I have a lose second ethernet cable sitting on the desk to which I attach the laptop. Then I sync via Homegroup with Allway Sync.

But for very frequent sync and a lot of folders, that may not be so practical.
