The account I'm on is the only account on this laptop, and it's an administrative account. The problem started a few days ago when i noticed I couldn't run taskmanager, it would open, stay on the screen for a good half a second, and then close itself. Feared virus, ran rkill, closed nothing, MBAM found nothing, hitman found nothing. Oddly enough, winrar also fell under this trap, except it didn't even open for a half a second.
Ran SFC, told me i had errors it couldnt fix, chalked it up to that.
Restored PC using lenovo's built in little factory reset tool, tried to open task manager and yay, it opens. Reinstalled all updates, reinstalled Avira (swapping from kaspersky) and comodo firewall, and back up and running. Reboot laptop a little later, try to get into taskmanager, and its back to the old habit. Ran SFC again, nothing found.
However, if I run directly from the taskmgr.exe by running as administrator, it opens. Same goes for winRAR, which I just downloaded to test and loandbehold it has the same problem. I can't open Windows Update without running as admin, nor can I actually get properties to open by right clicking on computer and opening through that. Fresh install of windows, so what actually could be causing this, since i've never actually had this problem, and don't have it on my desktop which has also eaten every windows update available.
