Technet subscriptions --Keys to be REDUCED again to 3 in Mid Mar

I agree Jimbo. Its disappointing when this stuff happens but that seems to be the way the world works today. There is always the fine print that gets you. I have a standard subscription and it fits my needs, and the big companies have Volume license, but the small business is the one getting hurt by this as it was a good fit for them.

As far as the testing requirement goes for a TechNet subscription. It seems to me that if you opt to stay in the customer feed back program you are still "testing" the Op system for them and providing feed back to that effect.

Getting three keys which works for thirty machines seems reasonable to me.

Hi there

As I said -- it's not the "reasonabless" or "unreasonabless" of the product that is getting my goat -- 30 keys for testing software - especially as an individual should be MORE than enough.

My gripe is that what I'm being offered now (whether or not it's reasonable) is NOT the CONTRACT I signed up to.

If they had said 3 at the outset --still a good deal-- no prob. but changing mid flight without even offering a refund just goes to show that contracts these days aren't really worth the paper they are written on.

How would you feel if you signed a deal to lease a car for a year and you were allowed 1000 free miles a month -- then two months into the contract it was unilaterally changed so that you were only allowed 100 miles a month and for any excess you'd be charged 35 cents a mile. I don't think you'd be too happy.

I have a technet subscription. For 99% of my testing, I don't even supply a key or activate the machine I am testing. You get 30 days by default, and can do a rearm 3 more times, for a total of 120 days without needing a key.

The beauty of Technet for me is simply access to the software itself...not necessarily a ton of keys.

With respect to the "contract" that you signed...are you certain there wasn't legalese in the agreement saying that changes could be made at any point during the contract? I don't think the # of keys is actually specified in the contract itself.

I'm sure that somewhere in the contract there is something saying that they can change the rules in the middle of the ball game when ever they want too. :sarc:

I really think the keys were being sold off on places like EBay which I'm sure goes against the contract.
