tv as second monitor help

my roommate just got a new computer and we are trying to get our tv hooked up as a second monitor. we had it set up with the old computer (xp) so we know the cords are connected and the asus en9800gt video card works with the tv. this rig is windows 7 amd athlon II x4 processor 6 gb with a geforce 9800 gt graphics card in it. no matter the settings i do in the screen resolution settings for a second monitor the tv remains black. i have been on tech support more in the past few days then i'd like to be for my entire life, and we just want to watch anime and movies laying on our couches instead of having to sit in the computer chairs we have. if anyone can help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. thx!

Assuming you have downloaded and installed the latest chipset, video card and sound drivers, I would then check all physical connections twice while powered down. Typically, when a cable or connector goes bad it is after having been recently unplugged (and more so if it was plugged in for a very long time). Testing with another TV or with a different cable can lead you to a result.

Also, providing all of the hardware spec.'s including your TV make and Model No. may lead another to be able to be more helpful as they may have had the same hardware and issue to troubleshoot.
