Hello
I am a lot illiterate. When it comes to network connections on my laptop. I was wondering if it is possible to connect to two different wireless networks, on using the wireless network connection and the other using the wireless network connection 2. If it isn't possible, what is the second connection for? Help would really be appreciated

I've got a Asus N61J laptop. Windows 7 professional x64.
The first is a Atheros ar9285 wireless network adapter. The next is microsoft virtual WiFi miniport adapter

Apparently, Windows 7 is capable of creating a virtual wireless adapter, by using your existing wireless adapter. In much the same way you can use Windows 7 to host a virtual PC, you can now use your wireless adapter to create a virtual wireless network, which saves on hardware costs.

It can be useful for creating an ad hoc wireless network as this article suggests:

Windows 7 adds native Virtual WiFi technology from Microsoft Research – istartedsomething

The bottom line is that you don't have to worry about it as it's doing no harm. If it bothers you, you should be able to disable it.

Thank you. I wasn't worrying about it doing harm, I was just curious.

You're very welcome.

There's no harm in being curious if it helps us to learn. To tell you the truth, I had seen it on a friend's computer and I never did bother to find out what was causing it until your query came along. :)
