Two Hard Drives - One seems to boot the other at start up

Hi All,

Hi Guys,

I've been fighting with this for at least 6 months and have had every different result you can imagine. It all boils down to how it is booting and it is not really causing any issues at the moment (but trust me, it has). The main one being that I'm a perfectionist and end up trying to fix it and then get everything screwed up (thank god for True Image).

So here's the issue. I have two 500GB hard drives in my laptop. I run Windows 7 on one of them and Windows 10 on the other. Somehow, using some of my disk software, it appears the Windows 7 drive is booting the Windows 10 drive, but the Windows 7 OS boots anyway.

The Visual BCD and pic of what Acronis Disk Director shows is below:





And I have the added advantage of being able to select which OS I want to go to as soon as it boots without any software. So should I just leave this alone or what are the potential disadvantages?

Are you set up to dual boot win 7 win 10?

If so which is your default?

I’m not sure if I have 10 set up to dual boot 10 or not. Have a link to an article that I could check out?

At some time I remember selecting Windows 7 as my default OS. And, fwiw, it’s always selected at boot. I just have to hit enter. If I want to boot In 10, I just select it.

But I also have have NeoSmart iReboot running in the task bar but seldom use.

Surely I'm not dumb enough that I swapped my hard drives around in my pc, but I'm 99% sure that didn't happen.

If you have dual boot setup, windows bootloader on boot will offer a screen that has your default as the first option with a delayed start if set. If you don't know you most likely don't.

Well I have the legacy version, so does that technically mean I'm dual booting from 7 or dual booting from 10 and since 7 is my default then it shows the legacy?

And nothing against BCDedit, but it's gotten me in a heck of a mess when I started messing around with stuff. Like won't boot up mess. Not that it's a bad software, I just never have messed with the boot process much.

Looks like bios boot order is picking up the disk containing win10 as having the first active partition.

Yes, I expect it is. That is a pretty standard method for dual booting.

Well it was kind of one of those things that I pretty much knew what it was doing, I just didn’t know how I got there. Like I said, I’ve been fighting with it for six months. Not necessarily windows 10, but Linux, grub2, etc.

So it was more of an accident that I stumbled upon where I got because not long before that, the pc would not boot.
