Undervolting my HP laptop

i have an old pentium m centrino laptop that used to heat up like crazy and shutdown every hour or so.
Sounds like a good clean out wouldn't go amiss either with that.

yeah well i clean my fan atleast once a month. so that's not a problem.:D
and bill2 i tried the thing you mentioned...i don't really see a difference.(i have notebook hardware control which constantly show me the temperature).

still looking for a solution here good sirs.

Hi there. i have a HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr notebook. I've been trying to undervolt it for quite some time now but haven't been able to. i'm no computer programmer but i'm not dumb either.
okay first things first.
I tried using RmClock. but it didnt recognize my cpu, which i read, means that i can't undervolt my cpu. many forums asked to me to do a whole bunch of stuff in the "advanced settings" page...the thing is my version of Rm Clock doesnt have an advanced settings page. is that normal?
i then tried Notebook hardware control.
but it doesn't allow me to do anything to the voltage control. i can see the tab and everything but i can't seem to type in any digits for the multipliers etc. And the acpi control tab says that it's not "configurated" for my system.
so after reading and pouring over thousands of forums,i give in.
help!
please let me know if you need me to upload any other data on my side.

I have the same issue.

same to me....my hp dv5-1002nr is overheating and its shut down by himself...RmClock does not recognize my cpu and the advanced option does'nt appear...i instaled FanSpeed and the fan speed option does not appear...so the best i could do was to take down the doors that cover the ram modules and the bios from the rear back of my laptop....so now my HP stand in 45-55 Celsius degree and rising when i do a hard use but not very high...before i do that the cpu temperature was higher than 85 Celsius degree...thats the best i could do for cooling..i'll try a laptop suport with a huge fan underneath and see what's happening...

The software mentioned in this thread did not recognize my processor. I search around a bit and finally found a program called K10stat that worked. Unfortunately my laptop became very unstable after undervolting.

Maybe this link and the software will work for some of you guys that are having trouble trying this.

Hello Hp owners ....
I don't know if my situation is the same with yours but it sounded pretty much the same ...
I bought an Hp dv6000 for almost a year ..It sudently got very hot ...i meant really HOT ...and it shut-down by it self due to the extreme heat ....
Contact Hp support back and forward for 2 months ... sent out to Hp twice for repair but still have proplem ....I called Hp again and they said all they can do is to update the BIOS so that the fan will be on "high-speed" constantly ....?
This will make very LOUD noise and resently my GPU was fried ..
Contact hp svc again ..and this time a Tech called me back .he said if i want to fix my laptop i have to pay $459.99 for the GPU and mother board because the warranty only for one year....but you see it broke down way before the warranty expired ...
This made me very angry and i swear NOT to buy anything from HP again ....
...Hp ...
So...good luck ...to all of you ..

I tried that following that thread...on a laptop new generation (CULV)

My voltage is set minimal 0.9000V to maximal 0.9750V, i was able to low it according the forums.notebookreview.com, to the minimal 0.9000V.....It didn't makes any difference since my processor is an Ultra Low Voltage already pre-configured to be set to the minimal at startup.

RMClock is pointless to those processor!!!:)
I'm using instead a Cooler for notebook (-10°C effective)

I gonna try now on an HP Laptop Dv5000 series...I think it could work.

EDIT:

RMClock works fine, on an AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile Tech ML-32 "Cool'n'Quiet", I was able to low from max 9X 1.4000V to min 4X 0.7000V at the value 4X 0.8750V (stable ?). Only few degrees grabbed but worth a try.

Edit:
value 4X 0.9000V (stable).

So...good luck ...to all of you ..

I bought 4 years ago an HP Laptop dv5000 series that had never fail me once! The only probs is that i screwed up myself the Hdd by dual dooting with Win7 RC because the Hdd was only an 4200rpm (too slow for that!!), so i had it repair by myself.

When i saw the guy to ask what's up my hdd, we were talking about the HP dv5000 series and i told him about (appart the hdd probs), that this computer never failed me...He was not surprised and he told me back that the HP dv6000 and some after did had a lot of troubles due to the motherboard and overheating!
